Our word for 2017 was “A Big Year”, and I have yet to talk to a person who disagrees on its accuracy up to this point. I’m no different. What an adventure 2017 has been! The second February hit, I was feeling confused and overwhelmed with a situation in my life I would have rather not been in. I had two choices: embrace it, or get bitter. The following Bible story really spoke into my situation – the reason why, I’m going to share with you just a little bit further down! John 2:1-12: Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there. Jesus and his disciples were guests also. When they started running low on wine at the wedding banquet, Jesus’ mother told him, “They’re just about out of wine.”Jesus said, “Is that any of our business, Mother – yours or mine? This isn’t my time, don’t push me.”She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”Six stoneware pots were there, used by the Jews for ritual washings. Each held twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus ordered the servants, “Fill the pots with water.” And the filled them to the brim.“Now fill your pitchers and take them to the host,” Jesus said, and they did.When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn’t know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom, “Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their full brings in the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best till now!”This act in Cana of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, and the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples believed him. Firstly, isn’t Jesus the coolest?! When I grow up I want to be just like him. So there’s Jesus, with his friends at a wedding, when the wine runs out. Along comes Mum who decides this is an opportunity for a solution, but Jesus doesn’t really want a bar of it, instead saying “This isn’t my time, don’t push me.” Did Mum listen? Nope. She went on, instructing the servants to do whatever Jesus told them to. So Jesus had a choice here. He could have decided it wasn’t His problem, and that He knew the best timing (because let’s be honest, He’s God, so He does), OR, He could make a decision to honour the authority of those who had been placed around Him. Jesus chose Option B. After being semi-thrown into a situation He didn’t elect to be in, He chose to give it everything He had. He gathered the resources He had around him and brought the BEST wine to the banquet. So let me encourage you…when you’re in a situation you don’t particularly want to be in, bring your best! I know for me there was a lot of praying before I could bring my best with a heart that reflected my actions. Beautiful sisters, the journey we walk isn’t always easy, but with God it’s so very, very good. Holy Spirit has so many beautiful truths to whisper to your heart; truths that transform your life. Why not let today be the day you choose to bring your “A-Game?”
