FIND BELONGING THROUGH OIKOS

BELONGING

Forming the right relationships creates the right environment to keep your discipleship journey on track.

  • Meet our Pastors & Leaders

Your ideal point of contact for getting connected with our church should be our pastors and leaders. After the service on the first Sunday of the month they will be available to introduce you to the right people to help you find your ideal place of belonging. You can let us know you'd like to meet in advance by contacting us here, or you can just rock up on the day. We look forward to meeting you and helping you on your BELONGING journey.

  • Attend Social Gatherings

There are many different social-sized gatherings that are run by the people in our churches. These are a time for you to get to know people outside of our worship services.

Some examples of these gatherings include potluck lunches, church-family dinners, fitness groups, craft groups, walk & talk, and much more. These gatherings are organically run by people in our churches meaning that they can be seasonal and are often changing. The best way to be in the loop is to be connected with our Oikos Leaders at either Mountains or Hawkesbury!

  • Join an Oikos

As you spend time getting to know people through social gatherings, our hope is that you would find people you connect with and make a decision to invest into doing life with them. The majority of our pastoral care is facilitated through these relationships that we call "Oikos". As well as meeting practical needs, this community will help you develop your walk with God and grow in your faith.

  • Find a Way to Contribute

True belonging inspires people to take responsibility. It is so rewarding to be able to pay it forward so that what has been a blessing to you can be a blessing to others. If you call our church "home", there are many ways that you can contribute. Consider what time, talents, and resources you could offer to make our church stronger so that we can continue to build strong lives that take Jesus to all people.

COMMIT TO BECOMING A DISCIPLE OF JESUS

BECOMING

The focus of discipleship is to become like Jesus. While this is a lifelong journey, it is important to lay the right foundations to build your life strong.

  • Commit to a Huddle

The most fruitful discipleship occurs through an apprentice-like relationship with a mentor, and the support of committed peers. While our Oikos gatherings provide spaces for connection and belonging, a Huddle is a space for intentional equipping and accountability in our walk with God. These small groups have explicit seasonal goals of growth and development, equipping people to become mature disciples of Jesus that can outwork the ministry that God has called them to.

  • Understanding Christianity

Gaining a good understanding of the basics is the platform on which we can launch the rest of our discipleship walk. This step is about answering fundamental questions about the purpose of life, who Jesus is, how to effectively pray & read the Bible, what the role of the Church is, and much more.

  • Finding Freedom Retreat

Finding Freedom Retreats create opportunities to set ourselves apart from our day to day and be equipped to better walk in the freedom that Jesus has provided for us. They involve prayer and worship that opens us up to encounters with the Holy Spirit, opportunities to build relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and revelation that transforms us from the inside out.

  • Holy Spirit Infilling

While you have learned about the Holy Spirit and His role in our lives in the Understanding Christianity and Finding Freedom steps, we believe it is important to have a personal experience with His presence and power. These tangible and revelatory experiences help to take your head knowledge and put it into action in your life.

You may have some denominational distinctives that can be clarified further with a pastor. We encourage you to have these conversations so that ambiguity does not get in the way of your relationship with the Spirit.

  • Water Baptism

Water Baptism is outward expression of an inner change. It is our choice to show that we desire to change and become like our Lord Jesus Christ.

It confirms a new identity as a disciple of Jesus. He was baptised as an example to those who choose to be His followers. Baptism is a symbol of our commitment to a new way of life. It shows that we aspire to be discipled by the Bibles teaching and by leaders in the church. It demonstrates our obedience to God.

  • Discipleship Essentials

This step is focused on living out the sometimes abstract ideas of faith and putting them on the ground in practical and life-changing ways. Each topic should be taught and then meaningfully applied. These topics are drawn out of the Bible and applied with meditation and prayer to help form the foundational Christian habits that lead to a strong life. This step should not be rushed but instead gradually integrated into how you live as a disciple of Jesus. The goal is not perfection but strong progress towards becoming more like Jesus.

  • Financial Discipleship

God, Money & Me is a course written by Ps Paul de Jong from LIFE Church, and teaches how we can steward our finances in a Godly way.

It looks into four main ingredients of giving that can create a life and a future of financial breakthrough and blessing.

God Money & Me will enable you to create a pathway to financial freedom and will equip you to establish a financial foundation for future generations.

  • Discovering Purpose

Fulfilling your destiny requires you to discover, develop, use & submit your gifts according to God’s plans. In this stage of the pathway we look at some fun and interactive ways of identifying the frontiers that God is calling you to. We take a look at concepts such as testimony, personality and gifting to help identify the kind of ministry work God has prepared for you to do.

JOIN IN BUILDING GOD’S KINGDOM

BUILDING

There are many roles for us to play in seeing God build His Church and take the Gospel to all people.

  • Make yourself accountable to a mentor

Doing work on behalf of the Lord, even in an informal capacity, bares a weight of responsibility that should not be carried alone. The beauty of the Body of Christ is that many parts work together in unity to achieve God’s purposes. Finding the right person to keep you accountable to your calling will ensure that you can do ministry with health and longevity, producing long-lasting fruit.

  • Start or join a ministry work

Now that you have built a strong life it is time to take what Jesus has done in you and share it with your world. Ministries come in all shapes and sizes, addressing various needs and shining light in personal ways. Some are called to pioneer and trailblaze into new frontiers, others bring strength to other people’s ideas, developing the ministry and producing much fruit. Pray and identify how you can outwork your calling in your current season, consult with your mentor, and take a step of faith knowing God has already prepared the way for you beforehand.

  • Called to mentor others?
    Find people of peace

In Luke 10, Jesus instructed His disciples to go house to house sharing the gospel. If someone welcomed them in, they would stay and pass on Jesus’ teachings. If they were turned away they shook the dust off their feet and moved onto the next place. This concept is what we call “People of Peace”. They are people that God has prepared in advance to receive the message that you carry. These are the optimal types of relationships to foster a journey of discipleship. Take time to build friendships with individuals and prayerfully invite them to join you in a discipling relationship.

  • Start a Huddle

Once you have determined who your People of Peace are, invite them to commit to a journey of becoming a mature disciple of Jesus. This journey should begin with setting a vision for what completion looks like—being equipped to live out God’s calling for your life. It should also be timeboxed, as these relationships are usually seasonal. It is common for huddles to run for 2-3 years, and commitment is often re-evaluated every 12 months. Huddles are intentional spaces for growth, with an outcome in mind from the beginning.

  • Multiply disciples of Jesus

God’s kingdom is built through multiplication—disciples who make disciples. Our greatest impact on the world will be partnering with God in developing more workers for His harvest (Matt 9:38). How many others can you mentor into becoming a disciple of Jesus? How many of those can you help in their journey of mentoring others?

  • Called to lead a faith community?
    Form a core team

Whether you are called to lead in social or public spaces, your first step is forming a team that will help you on the journey. This will help you have long term success rather than trying to carry your vision by yourself.

  • Develop an Oikos

An Oikos functions as a spiritual family of faith. This texture takes time to develop and will flow from the connections established by your core team. Like a biological family, an Oikos may take years to get started but grows fast when mature. Consider the needs of your Oikos. What spaces do you need to facilitate to meet their needs and help them grow? Are you developing mentors to help carry the demand for discipleship? What avenues do you need to setup to help people outwork their ministry?

  • Multiply your Oikos

When an Oikos grows too large, beyond an extended family size, it becomes necessary to look at ways to multiply, in order to maintain a house-to-house culture. Multiplication can look like raising up a new leader and sending out a smaller group to birth a new family of faith. It can also look like raising up several successors and dividing the original group into a new generation of Oikos.

  • Plant or pastor a church

Our mission is to outwork God’s promise to Abraham—to become a Strong Nation carrying the Spirit of Jesus to all the families of the Earth (Gen 12:1-3 & Gal 3:16). This journey is outplayed through multiplication of strong foundations.

Strong One | Strong Family | Strong Church | Strong Nation

An essential piece of the puzzle is to see many strong churches planted. Some are called like Abraham, to take their family and build something from scratch. Others will develop and multiply Oikos, eventually necessitating the establishment of a new church.

As church planting is something of utmost value to us, we want to ensure that those who have this calling are properly equipped to do it well. If this is a dream of yours, don’t hesitate to make that known to our pastors so they can help you take the right steps to see it come to life.
